In conjunction, contributions can be made at the Kiahkeya launch to the 'Raintrust Foundation' and the 'Festival in the Desert'. Raintrust Foundation:In a time when awareness and conservation of our world's natural environments is paramount, RainTrust has a sustainable economic strategy to effect this result. Our mission is to give indigenous populations the resources to create sustainable businesses using Rain Forest lands, which provide viable economic alternatives to de-forestation. RainTrust's sponsor an acre program allows individuals to take the first step in stopping de-forestation. The Tax-deductible contribution is broken down as follows:
Festival in the Desert:IN its 7th Edition January 11th-13th 2007, 'The Festival in the Desert' seeks its origin in the big traditional Touareg festivities, as Takoubelt in Kidal and Temakannit in Tombouctou, which represented for long time a place for decision making and exchange of information among the different communities. At the beginning, there were songs and Touareg dances, poetries, camel rides, games, etc.
Today, the Saharan Festival is opened to the external world and welcomes artists from other Malian regions, other African countries, but also from Europe and from the whole world. It is a discerning place of expression for the Touaregs in Mali. Mali being one of the poorest countries in Africa, and the Touareg a hard lined minority operates on a shoestring budget. The Kiahkeya Ensemble performed 'Intaka' at the Festival January 2006, and shot part of the film 'Footsteps in Africa' on location at the Festival.
