Music...It's an expression of God. All pain, joy, rage, love, wisdom, can be found in music. I am in awe when in the presence of its power. There's a place from where the music comes. The life essence... - C. Maraire

RIDDEN BY NATURE:

The Environmental Art Film 'Ridden by Nature' is a visual and musical voyage of Butoh dance in Nature settings, portraying the beauty of extreme and pristine wilderness and man's relationship to its existence through dance. Filmed thus far in Utah, this summer the filming will be completed in Alaska and Hawaii. In addition to the millions of year old seabed landscapes of Utah, Kiahkeya will film the glaciers and icebergs of the fragile arctic in Alaska, and the powerful rich volcanic visuals of Big islands Volcano, and the striking 3000 foot cliffs that go directly into the ocean off the island of Molokai.

'Ridden by Nature' is a powerful tribute to the natural elements that compose the earth, bringing to the forefront the current strained relationship of humanity to the earth, and hoping to spur action and awareness to the current environmental crisis. 'Ridden by Nature' witnesses the earth's biosphere and its global ecology, revealing the fierce and sacred existence of the planet's different intense, visually stunning geographical environments.

The scope of time and earth history set by the ancient sea beds, what were once oceans now deserts, then to the fragile glacial environments which bring into focus the current environmental warming crisis, and then to the rapid intense transformational state of the lava, 'Ridden by Nature' gives one a true perspective of the active life of the earth and it's delicate balance with respect to that power. For without the earth we cannot exist.

'Ridden by Nature' was conceived of in 2004, and Kiahkeya is looking to complete the aprox. 60 minute film by the end of 2007. 'Ridden by Nature' will be accompanied by music created from the natural elements, and ancient forms of instrumentation and vocalization. New York dancer Kathi von Koerber and Master Butoh dancer Atsushi Takenouchi and world musician Hiroko Komiya from Japan together comprise the creative team. Filmed by Danny Pendino and James Ewen (www.earthmedia.co.uk). Directed by Kathi von Koerber.
